Job Description
Are you an Operations Manager from a machine build background who thrives in project-based environments?

This isn’t a conventional production setting; component parts are ordered in to engineered specifications.

Your role is to manage the flow of parts into the assembly halls and coordinate the effort of the build team to assemble, commission, and test machines while ensuring on-cost and on-time performance.

You’ll be managing projects that flow regularly through the doors—some lasting around 12 weeks, others spanning a full year. These machines are designed for extreme conditions, so the testing process is thorough and rigorous. Your role? To ensure it all comes together seamlessly.

On the shop floor, as Operations Manager you’ll walk among a team with 10–40 years of experience under their belts. These are people who know their craft inside out. So, you won’t need to ‘manage’ them in the traditional sense; you’re there to guide them, taking a strategic, bird’s-eye view of the entire production process.

The ERP system is your ally, keeping everyone accountable. Your task is to set this up, making sure all parts of the business are communicating effectively so the right part lands in the right place, at the right time, with the right person. As Operations Manager you’ll also be involved in:
  • Forecasting labour costs
  • Driving continuous improvement through methods like 5S
  • Coordinating assembly
  • Ensuring machines are built on time and to budget, as far as the assembly function is concerned
  • Ensuring everything is where it needs to be when it needs to be there

You understand that businesses need to be future-proofed. Regular one-to-ones and appraisals are a key part of how you work, making sure everyone is on board, while harnessing the experience of long-standing team members to support and guide new talent.

Additionally, you’ll be responsible for directing a new apprenticeship programme, with two new apprentices joining the team.

You’re not the kind of Operations Manager who cracks the whip—you know how valuable your team’s expertise is, and you empower them to tell you what’s needed to keep things running smoothly.

Excitingly, the business is looking into bringing a small machine shop in-house for more control over minor tweaks and processes.

That’s another string you’ll be able to add to your bow.   As Operations Manager, you know the importance of health and safety, and you’re always on top of it.

But it’s not just about keeping the wheels turning. You’ll also have a say in the business direction and share in its profits.

This is an employee-owned company, so when the business succeeds, so do you. Perks include:
  • Competitive salary of £60k–£70k
  • Fridays finishing at 12 PM
  • 33 days of holiday, including bank holidays
  • Profit-sharing in a company with a £20 million turnover

This is your moment to join a team that values innovation and proactive change. A new leader is in place, and your contributions will directly shape the company’s continued success. Standard Working Hours:
  • Monday to Thursday, 8:00 AM – 4:45 PM
  • Friday, 8:00 AM – 12:00 PM
